Antigua & Barbuda

Barbuda Island

Barbuda's coastline is smooth, featuring pink, white and sandy beaches protected by coral reefs. In short, the original pink beaches in the southeast stretch out non-stop for 10 miles. Barbuda is one of the Caribbean's best tourist destinations, teeming with beautiful beached everywhere around the island that local people pack every weekend for picnics, fishing, cookouts and a nice day gazing at the sea. People like camping out for a few nights in locations where caves are, just to go fishing and cooking deer, fish and turtles. All these hunt prizes can easily be caught by anyone, especially by visitors. In Two-Foot Bay and other locations around the island, there are unexplored caves. Some of them treasure ancient paintings on their walls. In others travelers can climb straight all the way up to the top of the cave. There are also some caves leading to underground waters, so in those cases the presence of an expert guide is strongly recommended. The Darby Cave Sinkhole is just a few miles away from Highland. After an easy 40-minute guided ride on a bus, you'll suddenly hit on a huge hole in the ground and the top of the trees jutting out from the pit's brink. This is no doubt an amazing sight caused by a natural depression. Another major tourist attraction is the Frigate Bird's Magnificent Sanctuary. Located in the Codrington Lagoon, you can get there by taking a short boat trip across the lagoon. Around Barbuda's coastline there are plentiful ruins and traces of the different historic periods this island nation has gone through. A team of dry-behind-the-ears guides will take travelers into the ruins. However, it's important to follow the guide's advise in order to explore and scout the place correctly for some of them are immersed in underground waters on perilous spots. There're quite a number of fishermen and women on the island always keen to take travelers for a fishing trip. Catching lobsters is relatively a cakewalk since they can be found in scores and travelers can grab them with their bare hands or just using special fishing tackles and gear.
