Guatemala

Guatemala, together with Mexico, has the most important Mayan archaeological heritage. The ruins of the city of Tikal form this civilization’s most representative group. The most important remains of the Mayan sculpture are in the ruins of Quiriguá. In their awesome trails, which are high monoliths, drawings and hieroglyphs can be observed. In the vicinities of this archaeological site are the ruins of Uaxactún and Bonampak. In the highlands there are also Mayan remains, like those of Zaculeu and Old Mixco. The Spanish conquest also left artistic marks.
