The "Global Retirement Index 2022" by International Living, which has been echoed by the World Economic Forum, presents a list of retirement destinations around the world, based on the personal experiences of expatriates in each place, combined with factors such as the cost of living, climate, medical services and the simplicity of the bureaucracy.

It is a selection where European and Latin American countries stand out for retirement: Panama, Costa Rica, Mexico, Portugal, Colombia, Ecuador, France, Malta, Spain and Uruguay are the ten countries chosen to enjoy a quality retirement. Costa Rica ranks second on this list of the world's best retirement destinations for several reasons: its tropical climate, medical facilities, active outdoor culture, friendly population and sun-drenched natural beauty have made Costa Rica a magnet for retirees.Costa Rica is a stable democracy with high literacy rates and a relaxed approach to life. Citizens and residents have access to one of the highest rated healthcare systems in Latin America, according to International Living. The landscape ranges from beaches to lush jungle regions, covering multiple climate zones.  Protected national parks and wildlife refuges cover about a quarter of the country's land area, offering visitors ample opportunity to connect with nature, and it's called the country of "Pura Vida" for a reason.
