Since he was a little child, Juan Luis Guerra was known as the “sing-along kid.” At 16 he was a choirboy in school and used to record his strumming guitar whenever he got some spare time. That was the time when he made friends with Herbert Stern, his bosom friend. When Beatle maniac was in full swing, Herbert and Juan Luis started playing in the city's social clubs.After graduating from Philosophy and Letters School in Santo Domingo in 1980, this outstanding musician won a scholarship to study music in Berklee, Boston.Juan Luis Guerra and 440 made their debut in show business back in 1984. Their first CD “Soplando” laid bare the musician's talents and landed him a contract with the Karen record label.Despite a heavy poetic burden, his songs try to reflect the reality of the Dominican society. His metaphors and imagination mirror the social background of his time.
