As in the rest of the Caribbean nations, architecture in the Netherlands Antilles has been strongly influenced by European trends and styles. By and large, older buildings have been declared national heritage on all islands since colonial times.Many of these constructions have lived out the course of time. Some of them, built with rocks and stones, are still standing regardless of time.Despite cement and reinforced concrete have replaced older construction materials, contemporary housing projects keep many basic elements found in traditional houses built in the past.Today, there haven’t been major breakthroughs as far as building is concerned, beyond those constructions still standing.
