Floreana Island and the Baroness Eloise Wagner legens

Floreana Island is the sixth largest island because of its size in the Ecuadorian archipelago of the Galapagos Islands, it is in front of Santa Cruz Island, so the most feasible access route once you enter the archipelago is Puerto Ayora.

Among its attractions it has caves and a labyrinth formed by huge stones, which has transcended by oral tradition served as a hiding place for pirates who took treasures when attacking Spanish ships.

The numerous anecdotes about this place relate that the name of the island responds to the fact that Baroness Eloise Wagner, better known as the Empress of Floreana, disappeared next to a gentleman called Philipson, who was one of her lovers and left only a few footprints on the sand, in the direction of the sea and no further information was received, although the remains of the man subsequently appeared.

The human history that carries with it and this is another reason why visiting it is on the list of things to do when entering Galapagos Island.

Isla Floreana has an olive green sand beach in Punta Cormorán, near another white coral sand beach where there is a nesting zone of green sea turtles.

Its rich fauna allows the viewing of flamingos, oysters, zarapitos, black-necked stilts, white-cheeked sideburns, Galapagos hawks, white-tipped reef sharks, green sea turtle, pelicans, lava gulls and pygmies.

The Floreana Island is composed only by Puerto Velasco Ibarra where a maximum of 100 inhabitants are located there. It is the sixth most visited island by tourists who access the archipelago and are enchanted by this natural paradise.

Excellent place to practice scuba diving and snorkeling and although the few lodging sites, the management of those hotels work on the basis that the tourists sit in a comfortable and comfortable environment.
