Cuba Registers Growth in Tourist Arrivals in the First Months of 2019

Cuba has registered 1,612,371 foreign visitors so far this year, which represents a 5.15 percent growth compared to the same period in 2018, revealed the head of tourism Manuel Marrero to members of the permanent working committee of Attention to Services of the Cuban Parliament, met here.

He added that Canada repeats as the issuing market with the greatest presence of vacationers in the Island, with a rise that has been maintained for seven consecutive months.

However, there has been a decrease in the number of travelers coming from Europe, and not only to Cuba but to the entire Caribbean, mainly due to the lack of direct flights between these nations, explained Marrero.

Regarding private landlords of housing, rooms and spaces, Marrero Cruz said that 26,602 rooms are rented with licenses in convertible currency throughout the country, which generated 3.648,046 tourists-day in 2018.  

The Minister of Tourism referred to the results in the cruise segment and so far this year 243,000 travelers visited the country, an index that grows by 36 percent over the similar stage of the previous year, hence strengthening the work of refurbishment of the ports of Havana, Cienfuegos and Santiago de Cuba.

Customer satisfaction is validated with 42.2 percent of visitors repeating their stay, which in addition to being a high commitment proves their satisfaction with the services offered in the Greater Antilles.

Marrero acknowledged that information technologies should be better used, and noted that 30.8 percent of tourists who traveled to the island made that decision after consulting information on the web.
