The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) announced that it expects a growth in the arrival of travelers to the Caribbean region between 6 and 7% in 2019, with which the rise begun last September continues.
Ryan Skeete, interim research director of the CTO, announced that they also predict an increase between 4% and 5% in the arrival of cruises to destinations in that geographical area.
In 2018, Caribbean nations received 29.9 million travellers, the second highest total recorded after 30.6 million in 2017, despite a downward spiral following two hurricanes.
Skeete acknowledged that even destinations severely affected by these weather phenomena, although they had general decreases of two digits last year they experienced a significant change in the last four months, with three-digit increases in that stage.
Canada was the best-performing market in the Caribbean region, with a 5.7% increase in tourist visits of up to 3.9 million.
The United States accounted for 13.9 million visits, confirming a 6.3% decline.
