Dominican tourism product receives promotion at FITUR

The Dominican Republic, with 6.6 million travelers received in 2018, is promoted as a tourism leader in the Caribbean, at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR), which takes place in Madrid, Spain, from January 23 to 27.

As a FITUR Partner, it will advertise its extraordinary diversity of attractions as a Destination, with charming beaches, the practice of adventure sports, golf, nature tourism and a hotel plant with great comfort, as well as a varied gastronomy.

Under the motto Dominican Republic has everything to make a vacation unforgettable, its participation at FITUR will focus on showing a compendium of tourism products difficult to match, said Karyna Font-Bernard, director of the Dominican Republic Tourism Office for Spain and Portugal, at the official presentation of FITUR 2019.

In 2018 it grew by 6.2% in the reception of vacationers compared to 2017, according to statistics from the Ministry of Tourism (MITUR).

Font-Bernard said that "the wide range of alternatives for leisure and tourism offered by the destination is one of the keys that explain that the average stay is consolidating year after year. This growth is influenced by the creation of better infrastructures, the recognition of Santo Domingo as the Gastronomic Capital of the Caribbean (2017) and an attractive complementary tourist offer that includes the colonial legacy, including the diversity of enclaves and cultural routes of interest, noted Font-Bernard.

The convention tourism segment also benefited the Caribbean nation in the year just ended, and denotes a strengthening with a significant demand for event organizers.

From January to September 2018, the Tourism Development Council (CONFOTUR) approved the classification of 73 tourism projects with an associated investment of around US$4,118.5 million.

These investments will allow the creation of 20,723 new rooms in the next three years that will come to be added to the 4,000 rooms that have already been incorporated to the offer of lodging of the Dominican Republic in 2018 and the around 6,300 that have been renewed, for a total of 77,259 rooms.
