Havana announces 2018 Excellencias Awards

The official announcement of the eighth edition of the 2018 Excelencias Awards, dedicated to Havana's V Centennial, was made at a press conference held in the Cuban capital.

The event, whose deadline for application is December 21, aims to promote excellence in various spheres, all linked to tourism, culture, education, art, gastronomy, the automotive universe and society.

The eighth edition will also recognize the defense of the environment and sustainable development, with its Blue and Green awards and will be open to all individuals and institutions whose projects contribute to these noble causes.

For the first time, the Carilda Oliver Labra In Memoriam Award will be conferred, which pays tribute to the life and work of the poet known as La Novia de Matanzas (The Bride of Matanzas), while honoring the courage and strength as distinctive characteristics of this incredible Cuban creator.

The Excelencias Group has conferred its awards to relevant personalities and to institutions and social projects that have stood out for their social stature.

The first edition was held in 2011, but since 2005 some Cuban personalities and institutions had already been awarded and until 2017, the Excelencias Group has delivered more than 119 prizes in Cuba.

With this edition, the Group also intends to accompany the celebrations for the V centenary of the foundation of the Villa de San Cristóbal in Havana, and its awards ceremony will be held in the Cuban capital on February 20, 2019, at the Sala Covarrubias of the National Theater.

In the first month of 2019, the awards will have their international version in Madrid, during the International Tourism Fair of Spain (FITUR), from January 23 to 27, the same event in which Cuba was awarded as one of the safest destinations in the world in 2017.

The official announcement was opened on October 17 and is scheduled to close on December 18, 2018.
