Chichén Itzá

One of the big cities of Mayan culture nowadays it’s an archaeological site. Its name means “the mouth of the water deposit of Itzá” and derives from the Itza tribe that lived in the territory and from the two wells or natural water deposits (cenotes) supplied water to the city and around which their religious and cultural life turned. Chichén Itzá was founded at the beginning of the 6th century A.C. its main ruins cover 3 square kms. Each construction is known by a different name, as is the case of The Baseball Game, religious game of symbolic character formed by two parallel walls of 83 m long and 9 wide. Besides another one of 36 meters .7 meters from the floor outstands, in both walls, a carved stone ring with the shape of two snakes overlapped. During the game the participants tried to introduce the ball into the ring.Near this site, there are the Sacred Well and a cave system, which are mainly unexplored.
