San Francisco de Paula Church

Back in 1664, there used to be a hospital and a hermitage for women, both wreaked by the 1730 hurricane. The whole complex was reconstructed completely with the same former baroque style and serving the same purposes. In 1946, the hospital and part of the church were demolished. The remaining portion of the building shows an almost-in-ruins look furnished with such interesting decorative elements as voluminous facades underscored by a combination of lights and shadows when tangentially lit by sunlight. Its location in the middle of the road takes bypassers aback. It’s currently used as a concert hall.
