Dominican Republic in favor of wellness tourism

As part of its hotel industry, the Dominican Republic is developing health and wellness projects that make it possible to take advantage of wellness tourism in mountain and city areas, in addition to the sun and beach.

The island has among its strategic advantages for the development of health and wellness tourism with a favorable geographical location, a favourable climate all year round, social peace, quality and safe health services, specialists trained in important North American and European institutions with the necessary endorsements and credentials and other competitive advantages.

Dominican Republic is the main medical tourism destination in the Caribbean region, according to the Medical Tourism Index, a biannual ranking prepared by International Healthcare Research Center that qualifies 41 nations in that activity.

Among the proposals in the tourism of well-being are beauty or thermal treatments, sports, fitness and spiritual activities, and in the medical sphere offers the options of rehabilitation, surgeries, recuperations, dentistry and nutrition, among others.

He has also developed treatments called body sculpture, such as liposuction, breast augmentation and reduction, nose work and buttock lifts. Many destinations in the Dominican Republic offer along with medical services, trips to picturesque places and vacation times for patients and their families.

Health tourism is increasingly focused on a group that travels interested in enjoying places. In order to strengthen this Caribbean island as a destination offering health and well-being, the Dominican Association of Health Tourism (ADTS) and AF Strategic Communication announced that the third edition of the Health and Welfare Tourism Guide will be ready in June.

The publication of the Medical Tourism Association (MTA) will be presented during the V International Congress on Health and Welfare Tourism, which will take place from 9 to 10 June. Dr. Alejandro Cambiaso, president of the ADTS, highlighted that this edition "seeks to strengthen the positioning of the Dominican Republic as a safe destination, differentiating us from our competitors as a nation that has managed the pandemic in a timely manner".

The Health and Wellness Tourism Guide will expose the options offered by the Dominican Republic as a reliable international medical tourism destination with extensive information on the main players in the value chain of medical tourism.
