Samana: a paradise in Dominican Republic

Samana has the charm that gives it a well preserved nature and the naturalness and hospitality of its people, hence the large influx of visitors to this tourist destination in the Dominican Republic. It is one of the 32 provinces of the Dominican Republic and is located in the northeast of the country, completely occupying the Samana Peninsula. Its capital is the city of Santa Barbara de Samana, usually called only Samana.

There is an airport in the province, and although the investments in the growth of its hotel plant have been significant, it has always respected the natural environment, with an adequate integration in the landscape. In this way, Samana maintains its essential characteristics. Among its attractions is the Haitises National Park, with an area of approximately 600 square kilometers, a paradise for bird colonies and where nature shows a splendid biodiversity. Famous among visitors is El Salto del Limón, the waterfall located in the interior of the Sierra de Samana and whose water precipitates from about 50 meters high into what forms a natural pool where it is possible to enjoy a bath.

In Playa Rincon, in Samana, you can find one of the most famous sands in the Caribbean. There are several kilometers of fine and clear sand to walk by the palms and coconut trees or to relax in front of the ocean. Also of interest is Las Terrenas, an old fishing village where you can get to know the way of life of its inhabitants and shop for handicrafts and taste fish with coconut sauce, which is the typical preparation in this region of Samana. The capital of the province, Santa Barbará de Samaná, is a quiet city with the picturesque bay of Samana and has a Whale Museum, as this place is like a natural sanctuary for this cetacean.
