This is a small tropical island of 37 square miles that belongs to the Netherlands Antilles. It's located in the southernmost tip of the arch and divided in two different territories: St. Marteen in the Dutch side of the island and St. Martin on the French side. As time has rolled on, both regions have paid tribute to their own cultural legacy and the strong influence these two nations have exerted on their traditions. The borderline between these two islands is imaginary since travelers can move freely back and forth. The main road for drivers is marked by a simple milestone or obelisk built to celebrate the 300 years of the aforesaid division in 1648. Saint Martin's capital is Marigot. Despite being a small town across the board, its landscapes are breathtaking, and some cases in point are The Colombier Valley and the Paradise Peak right in the heart of the tropical jungle. There are sites like Oyster Pond, Anse Marcel and Basse Terres, all offering spectacular views of the island's coastlines and the surroundings. There are beaches galore for everybody with great locations for nautical sports. A couple of lovely must-sees are the Birds' Cliff and Fort Louis in Marigot. The island is blessed with a top-notch hotel infrastructure with superb quality service and comfort. Its main hotels are mostly located in Grand Case, Oyster Pond, East Bay and Anse Marcel. Having inherited a cuisine tradition in which traditions and local resources melt into one another that enriches its gourmet heritage, here you could choose from a number of restaurants featuring the tastiest French, international and local food money can buy. Lay back and have a great time with the good music blaring out in the St. Martin's nights. There are lots and lots of nightclubs, bars, discos and a whole lot more. If you come to the country when carnival celebrations are in full swing, you'll fill your eyes with cultural traditions by means of dancing, garments and the gaudiness and splendor of the rolling platforms.
