New Orleans

New Orleans is a city in the state of Louisiana and capital of the Orleans Parish. Founded in 1718 by the Mississippi River by Jean Baptiste LeMoyne, Lord of Bienville and his brother Pierre. The city was named after the Duke of Orleans. Its colorful history and the mixture of African, Indian and Creole cultures gives this city a unique flavor not found anywhere else in the U.S. Its main attractions are the Dixieland Jazz; the Mardi Gras Carnival, of the most spectacular festival in the United States, and the voodoo rituals, let alone its galleries, museums and partying nightlife. Coming here is hassle-free since the city counts on one of the world's largest international ports and airports, the latter named after the city, plus a modern grid of highways and railroad stations. This city is penciled in as one of America's most festive towns. Almost all of its citizens live on a slogan that reads: laissez les bon temps rouler! meaning let the good times roll on. Its very special architecture, featuring Spanish and French-style streets and houses dating back to 1745. The city is divided in several sectors and French Quarter is the most coveted of them because of its architectural attractions and festive atmosphere. In its many restaurants, visitors can taste a great gourmet cuisine teeming with such traditional dishes as okra stew soups. You can also stay at magnificent hotels and take a grand tour around its huge shopping malls.
