San Salvador

The city of San Salvador is the capital of the country and the headquarters of the national government. Founded in 1525, it was originally named Quetzalcoatitan, meaning land of the quetzal. Located in central El Salvador, the capital is divided in 19 municipalities that embrace 886.15 square kilometers and shelter 1,831,532 residents.
San Salvador is an industrial and trade city all by itself, with most of the country’s factories, commercial centers and government offices clustered here.
The capital offers visitors countless nature parks, interesting museums and ruins of long gone civilizations among many other attractions. It’s a cosmopolitan city blessed with top-rated hotels and excellent restaurants serving traditional food and international cuisine, most of them accompanied by a great variety of shellfish.
