Tegucigalpa

Tegucigalpa, surrounded by mountain and with an architecture of modern and colonial contrasts is the capital of Honduras and the Department Francisco Morazán, whose greater territory is part of the Central District. It is the political and administrative center of the country, a commercial city that shares with San Pedro Sula a level of economic and social importance. Colonized in 1578 by the Spaniards and well-known as a mining center, Tegucigalpa became the capital in 1880 and has the busy rate of the great progressive cities, but also the narrow and curved streets of the small towns. The present city has arisen from two different populations: the historical center where the oldest buildings are located and most of the museums; and the alive zone, where there is a greater amount of restaurants, commercial centers, discotheques, bars and modern offices. In addition, it has comfortable hotels, where visitors can stay, both at residential zones or near downtown. Among the most remarkable samples of the rich and valuable artistic patrimony of the city you can see the Cathedral of San Miguel, the Church of the Dolores, the Church of San Francisco. The most outstanding urban space from the artistic point of view is the Plaza de la Merced, surrounded by buildings representing the colonial architecture. The capital has in addition diverse museums that preserve and protect the cultural goods of the country. The fans of golf can practice their sport in two fields of 9 holes each of them, the Tegucigalpa Country Club and the Residential Center and Club of Golf Villa Elena. Finally, Tegucigalpa offers several populations of great colonial value, that still preserve their atmosphere such as San Juancito, the Valle de los Ángeles, Ojojona, the National Park La Tigra, with a spectacular forest of relatively easy access to the tourist and where the Cascade of San Matías is located, as well as the Zoologico Metropolitano, el Picacho, the Park of the United Nations and the Park La Leona. Also, to 30 kilometers of the city is the Zamorano Valley, that is famous for the agricultural school.
