Guatemala City

The City of Guatemala maintains all the year an active cultural life. Visitors can find museums that show permanent and temporary exhibitions, and that provide with conferences on pre-Hispanic art, anthropology and ethnology, popular culture, colonial and modern art, among other interesting topics. There are more than 30 galleries, which promote Guatemalan artists in the fields of painting, photography, engraving and sculpture. Regarding theater, diverse rooms display a varied range of plays, mainly from national authors. The city has an impressive cultural complex, the Cultural Center Miguel Asturias Angel, that offers diverse Hindu activities, such as recitals, presentations of the Guatemala Ballet and concerts of alternative rock.

Tips

The annual Carriacou regatta, in August, also features Africa-inspired big drum dancing.
