Guantánamo

Guantanamo is the most Eastern of the Cuban provinces, located 1000 kilometers from the capital of the isle, with a contrasting environment that includes almost deserted areas very near to the exuberant vegetation of the mountains. The offer the tourists is complemented with the peculiarities of the local gastronomy. The Jatibonico Ecological Reserve is located in this province. It has an area of around 5000 hectares in which we locate the mountains known as Monitongos characterized by a high endemism of flora and fauna. The main attraction of the province is the villa Our Lady of Baracoa, first city in Cuba, founded in advance by Diego Velazquez in 1512 and characterized by its friendly inhabitants, and the beauty of a city surrounded by abrupt coasts, foliage, mountains and rivers.

Tips

Although France and the Netherlands have shared the island since 1648, St Martin has also been occupied by Spain and Britain.
